Gran Canaria information

Cita Shopping Centre

In Faro Maspalomas, you can enjoy a pleasant après-beach drink at the Strand-Apotheke from 4 p.m. onwards. It’s great fun if you like German and Dutch sing-along music.
If you would like to enjoy a delicious coffee with a piece of cake in the afternoon, you can visit Café Wien on the first floor of the CITA shopping centre from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. You can also visit at other times, but it will be less busy then. Café Wien is closed in July and August. It can get very busy in winter, so make sure you arrive by 4 p.m. at the latest, otherwise the cakes may be sold out. We have heard many positive reviews about the rhubarb torte, but of course the other cakes are also delicious.
In the same Cita shopping centre, you can enjoy a delicious dinner at the Dus Bapa restaurant. The owners are two well-known Dutch fathers who have many foster children. They serve delicious Indonesian food. This restaurant is also on the first floor. Advance reservations are recommended. Cita also offers a delicious brunch on Sundays at Café Mauu (first floor). In addition, especially in winter, there is atmospheric music with live performances (German-Spanish) on Sunday afternoons.

Tirajana Avenue

You can also enjoy delicious food at Restaurante Romeo on Avenida de Tirajana, below Apartamentos Iguazu. From Aloe towards the Yumbo on the right-hand side of Avenida de Tirajana. We have also
heard positive reviews about Restaurant Merlin near Aloe. On the right-hand side of Avenida de Tirajana, towards the Yumbo.
If you really want to indulge in a culinary experience, be sure to visit Restaurant Calma Chica on Avenida de Tirajana no. 4. On the way to Riu Palace on the left-hand side. Highly recommended! There are cheaper Spanish cafeterias on the left-hand side of Avenida de Tirajana (if you walk from Aloe towards Yumbo). Here you can enjoy tasty and cheaper food and drinks. You will come across Tapas Bar San Fermin, Tapas Bar Mojo Cilantro and Tapas Bar El Rincon in succession.

Yumbo Shopping Centre

For many people, the place to be in the evening is the Yumbo shopping centre. It has numerous restaurants, shops and nightlife. There is a delicious Chinese restaurant on the ground floor if you turn right (China Town). There are also fun drag shows in the Yumbo. Café Junior on the ground floor of the Yumbo is a great place to enjoy a drink. This charming café is run by two hospitable owners. It is no coincidence that Café Junior has been voted the best evening bar in the Yumbo several times by the public.
Of course, there are other great places to go out in the Yumbo. Such as Grand Cafe Latino with its cosy and beautiful terrace, run by Dutch owners. For lively party music in the later hours, Macho Macho is the place to be. It also has a Dutch owner.
We have also heard good things about Restaurant Valentines in the Yumbo shopping centre, also run by Dutch people.

Kasbah Shopping Centre, Gran Chaparall, Cita

The Kasbah, Gran Chaparall (with most Dutch pubs), and Cita shopping centres are also great places to go out in the evening and have a drink. Cita also has cosy Dutch bars, such as Dreamz or the Fraja Hut.

Mogan Mall shopping centre

A new shopping centre has recently opened in Puerto Mogan, called “Mogan Mall. You go there for a “unique shopping experience”. All new shops, stocked with iconic brands.

What else we would like to share with you

You can enjoy delicious food in an Oriental atmosphere at Restaurant Samsara (near Faro Maspalomas). Advance reservations are generally recommended.
On Saturdays and Sundays, you can enjoy a delicious breakfast with sparkling wine at Café Europa at the bottom of Apartamentos Aloe.
We recommend the buffet at Hotel Ifa Catarina on the right-hand side towards Riu Palaca. Make sure you have a good appetite.

San Fernando

The Spanish residential neighbourhood/town of San Fernando borders Playa del Ingles and is within walking distance. Of course, it is quicker and easier to reach by taxi. Here you can buy groceries at affordable prices in large supermarkets and eat and drink in a Spanish atmosphere. You can also enjoy delicious Spanish tapas here, for example at La Tapita, El Motivo and El Picoteo (on the same street as the Hyperdino and Mercadona supermarkets).

Supermarket near Los Mangos

Are you looking for a supermarket near Los Mangos?
You can visit the La Sandia shopping centre, where you will find the La Campana supermarket.
Opening hours are
from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Supermarket near Parque Golf

There is no large supermarket in the immediate vicinity. If you are looking for a large supermarket, Mecadorma is a good option.
Opening hours: 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Dutch Supermarket

If you are looking for Dutch brands and products, you can find them here.

Market in San Fernando

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, there is a market in San Fernando (the Spanish neighbourhood bordering Playa del Ingles). If you take a taxi, say ‘el mercado’ (+/- €3.50). The municipal market hall is also located here. The market is open from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There is also a flea market in San Fernando on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., near the municipal swimming pool (piscina municipal) and the football stadium. Every two weeks, this market is expanded with a farmers’ market offering all kinds of products produced by local farmers.

Large market in Puerto de Mogan

On Fridays and Mondays, there is a market from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the town, which is very nice to visit. It is also a great place to grab a bite to eat at the harbour. Next to the fish auction is a fish restaurant where you can enjoy fish caught fresh daily. If you do go to Puerto Mogan, be sure to visit the brand new shopping centre, Mogan Mall, which is not to be missed.

Main market in Arguineguín

Every Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., there is a large market in Arguineguín. This is the largest market in Gran Canaria. It takes place on Calle Paco Gonzalez. If you like fish, you can enjoy freshly caught fish in the many fish restaurants that Arguineguín has to offer. Next to the fish auction in the harbour is a popular typical Spanish fish restaurant. You can find more information about markets in Gran Canaria via the following link:

Port of Mogán

You can get there by bus or by hire car. Puerto de Mogan is definitely a must-see. The motorway goes through tunnels, but the old road along the coast is much more spectacular and you can stop along the way to enjoy the beautiful views. Be sure to take a look at the recently completed shopping centre, Mogan Mall.

Are you travelling to Puerto Mogan by public bus?

The bus departs from the corner at the roundabout near the Aloe reception. If you drive there or back via the coastal road, you will pass Playa de Amadores between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan. It is a very nice little beach with a trendy bar. In Puerto de Mogan, you can park for free across from the harbour or just outside the village. It is a lovely little harbour with cosy bars and restaurants. From the harbour, you can take a trip on a real submarine or a boat trip to Puerto Rico and beyond. Puerto Rico or Arguineguin. It has a network of canals, which is why this harbour is also known as ‘little Venice’. The canals are connected by boulevards and small bridges, where you can enjoy a stroll through the small, charming harbour town.
The attractive marina, with its cosy restaurants, chic cafés, jazz and piano bars, is also home to the local fishing boats. The harbour is a lovely place to dine at sunset. On Friday mornings, there is a large, lively market at the fishing harbour. Five minutes from Puerto Mogan is Playa Taurito, a beautiful beach nestled against the cliffs. From Mogan, you can drive into the mountains via a very beautiful road through the Prea de las NIÑAS reservoir. The road to Mogan heading north to La Aldea de San Nicolas is also particularly beautiful. You can picnic or have a drink at the lake. Continue via Roque Nublo, TEJEDA and ARTENERA. There is also a beautiful nature park here: PARQUE NATURAL DE TAMADABA.

A little further than Roque Nublo is a very beautiful viewpoint: Pico de las Nieves. You can sometimes see Mount Teide on Tenerife! Don’t miss it.

Recommended if you have your own transport

If you want to take a trip by car, FATAGA is home to the Molino de Agua restaurant. This is located in the mountains. There is also a beautiful swimming pool there where you can relax. Fataga is also well worth a visit; it is an old, typical Canarian mountain village, which is now home to a number of artists.
You can drive back to Playa del Ingles via the villages of SAN BARTOLOME DE TIRAJANA and SANTA LUCIA.

You can also take the bus inland to San Bartolomé and continue on to Tejeda. You will be amazed by the beautiful landscapes!

Palmitos Park

Palmitos Park is located near Maspalomas. This is a great place to visit when the weather is not so good: dolphinarium, botanical gardens, animals… The park is located in the mountains, and walking through the park offers beautiful views in many places. Shows featuring birds of prey are performed at this amphitheatre. What is striking about the park is the abundance of cacti and succulents. Parrots are particularly well represented in this park, but other birds are also present.

If you enjoy swimming, Aquapark is a great place to visit.
